Headset worries

I've gone through a few headsets in the past few years and the thing that always goes wrong is the cable's connection to the headset.

I'm tired of soldering the wires back and I thought I'd look for a headset with detachable cables so that it will be pulled free and not cause loose connections when under stress.

I'm willing to spend around $100 (edit: $150 looks more reasonable) if the product is right but I can't afford much more than that.

I've googled around but nothing very helpful or recent. Can anyone suggest a headset or recommend a solution?

I don't have much knowledge when it come to speaker quality so any recommendations / ideas would be greatly welcomed. (I've also seen people suggesting headphones and a separate mic, Thoughts?)
