HP PhotoSmart 8050 printer

In the 'XP' forum I asked about the security or lack of it with XP today. I also mentioned that due to my con-
cern about that issue, I had disconnected my old desktop PC from my Linksys wireless router, but in doing so I had lost the use of my photo printer because it is cabled (hard wired) to the old desktop via USB cable. What I would like to know is if it's feasible to connect my printer directly to my wireless router so that I can still access from with my laptop? It would take a cable with a male Ethernet plug on one end and a USB male type B on the other. I'm not positive on these connectors, but I'm pretty sure that's what would be required. On the back of my printer it's the common little square male plug (I think a USB type B) and the only thing my router will accept is a standard Ethernet cable connector. Can anyone tell me whether or not my plan will work? I really want to save the old printer, but just don't know if it will work plugged directly into the router. Any/all help appreciated. Thanks, Joe.
