XP - can't move, delete or rename files on E drive

Hi,

Could really do with someones help if possible :- )
I had an XP based computer die on me that had some files on it which I hadn't got round to backing up - luckily I have a friend who, within limits, is fairly handy with computers and he took the hard drive out of it and after doing some work on it (sorry I don't know exactly what he did I was just grateful that he got a system working) put it in another standby XP computer I had the trouble is this :-

Although I can view all of the files I can't rename, move or delete any of them - it just says ''check that the drive is not write protected or that I have security access'' - this is driving me mad, it's like being starving and having food within sight on the other side of a barb wire fence!

Any help would be greatly appreciated - this is my system info' :-
