I have a 1tb external HDD that I use to store files, movies, games etc but recently I've been having a problem where I would copy files over to it but when I plug it back into the computer I notice that those files are no longer there. If I change a file name then I always find that the name has been reverted back to it's original name when I plug the HDD back in and the same goes for moving files. If I move a file into another folder on the HDD I will always find it back in its original folder when I go back to it.
I can only assume that either the changes aren't being properly saved to the HDD or they are being deleted when I unplug the HDD from the computer.
I have also just noticed that the folder names of folder that I have just moved over are all messed up with symbols and according to the properties these folders are 300gb+ in size despite only being 200KB each. I also cannot delete these new files and folders, all it says is that the file name specified is not valid or too long. Every file and folder that was made before the last 2 days are working fine.
I'd really appreciate any help you can give me, I have no idea how to fix this and I fear that the drive might be on its last legs, thanks.
