Display goes black when updating intel g45/g43 express chipset

I'd really appreciate some help here, as I have not been able to find any solution to this problem
Within the last year (I can't really remember when) I had to do a clean reinstall of windows 7, and that's when this problem cropped up. Every time I try to update this chipset, I get a black screen. (it bounces between normal resolution, and a really low one, centered in the middle of the screen before blacking out) Upon restarting I can get to see the windows logo, but once at the login screen, it is black again. So I am able to start in safe mode and restore to an earlier point.

Occasionally the current display driver quits, and then fixes itself. Seems to happen randomly.
Will be getting a new computer soon, but I'd still love for this one to be usable.
Using Photoshop CC daily, and with the current display, I get lots of problems and Photoshop has locked me out of using certain tools due to the issue with the driver.
