How to use a router to stream video to tv

A friend in a remote area of NC just replaced his (lousy) Dish service with Verizon's Wireless ISP service. Now everything is much faster. Verizon disconnected two routers from his computer and set them aside. (I'm concluding that the Dish needed routers, but the Verizon tower does not?) Can one of these routers be used to stream movies to his big-screen TV? If so, how do we install it? We need to get access to streaming services provided by Amazon Prime, Netflix, and others.
