Hope I'm posting this is the right section. I'm not very tech savvy so please forgive any ignorance on the right terms for anything!
I think I'm having a problem with my laptop charger and would like some advice on how I can proceed. I've considered getting in a tech guy to actually look at it but I'm not sure how serious the problem is and if the solution might just be something easy I can do myself (like buying a new charger!)
Previously I was primarily running my Toshiba Satellite laptop plugged in to the wall all the time since I use it as a home computer. We got a new kitten recently, which has meant leaving cords out isn't a good idea as we teach her not to chew things, and so I've had to use the battery during the day when using my laptop and then charge it overnight. I noticed the battery was draining really fast and then eventually stopped charging completely (it was saying plugged in, not charging) and since it was a few years old I just figured the battery needed to be replaced, which I did. I followed the instructions to let it recharge and discharge several times and it has been working great for the last few weeks.
However yesterday after wearing out the battery, I still had some work to do and so plugged it in. It seemed to be charging fine at first but then I noticed it had slowed down a lot, and that the orange light that indicates if it's charging or not was turning on and off. It seems to charge for about ten to fifteen seconds, then stop for a few seconds, and then start again. It's still enough to charge it but I'm worried it might be damaging to let it charge that way.
I've checked all the cords and plugs, and they all seem to be in good condition and fully plugged in. It works fine both whilst plugged in with the battery out, and not plugged in with just the battery. I haven't noticed any strange smells or sparking, and it doesn't seem to be really hot and therefore over-heating. My charge pack sits on a lino over concrete floor when charging. I don't have access to a second charger to test with.
Does anyone have any ideas or advice? Thanks :)
