Laptop upgrade. Is this possible?

I'm just looking for some expert opinions/advice on this potential upgrade to my laptop.

Current specs:

Dell Inspiron 15r 7520
Windows 8.1 64bit
Intel Core i7-3612QM CPU @2.10GHz
6.00gb RAM
Intel HD Graphics 4000

What I want to upgrade it to for the purposes of video editing:

Purchase either GTX 470 or GTX 650Ti

Then hook it up to a monitor.

Does all the look compatible with my current model?

Also if you have any better suggestions on the products I've listed that are similar price range, that would be great.
