After installing a new DVD burner, Windows will not load and I get a page that says "Drive 2 not found".
I recently purchased a DVD burner to replace the original DVD-ROM in a Dell OptiPlex GX620 desktop. The old DVD-ROM drive used an IDE cable and a Molex power supply connector but the new burner used SATA connectors for both so I also bought a SATA data cable. I got no new SATA power supply cable since the existing power supply already had what appeared to be an extra, unused SATA power connector.
While the old DVD drive used an IDE cable, the hard drive uses a SATA cable
When installing the burner I used the existing extra SATA power connector and the new SATA data cable which I plugged into an unused SATA connector next to the hard drive connector on the motherboard. Upon startup I get a Dell splash page and then, for lack of a better word (please pardon my ignorance), a DOS type page (black background with white script) that says:
"Phoenix ROM Bios Plus Ver. 1.10 A07
Dell System OptiPlex GX620 Series
Bios Ver. A07
Drive 2 not found: Parallel ATA, PATA-0
(Pri IDE Master)
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the set up utility"
But striking F1, F2 or any other key does nothing.
The new burner has power because the tray will open and close by use of the button on the front but will do nothing else.
I have rechecked all of the connectors and made sure they were all seated properly and do not appear to be damaged but at this point I have run out of talent and don't know what else to do.
I'm not sure it's relevant, but I upgraded the RAM from 2GB to 4GB at the same time as the new burner but after reinstalling the old DVD-ROM and checking System Properties the new RAM appears to be correct.
Does anyone have any idea what I've done wrong?
The new burner is a Lite-On Super AllWrite 24X SATA DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive - Bulk - IHAS124-04.
The new cable is a StarTech.com 6-Inch SATA Serial ATA cable.
The old DVD-ROM is a SONY model # DDU1615-DS
