The memory on my hard drive is almost all used up and I can't account for where it has been used.
I only have 14.7 GB remaining of 141 GB. Some 126.3 GB is being used.
All of my personal documents including pictures and videos and everything else etc, etc only accounts for 24.6 GB. Norton 360 Backup only accounts for 11.1 GB in total. I have Windows Vista and not a lot of additional software, so I can't work out how the additional memory is being used. Further, my remaining memory is dwindling on an almost daily basis despite my deleting redundant files to make room.
Also I can't account for how my available RAM is being used by the computer. I have 1.0 GB of RAM and if you go into Task Manager it informs you that when idle, i.e. when not in use and no packages are open, some 52% of the RAM is in use. But if you check the processes that are open in the TM it tells you there are 56 processes running; the first 22 add up to 66 MB and the remaining 34 which are all less that 44 KB each would add up to no more than 1.5 MB.
This gives a total of 67.5 MB which is a very different figure to 520 MB!
The TM also tells you that of the available Total of 1014 MB, 616 MB is Cached, and only 16 MB Free.
For me the maths does not add up.
How is all my hard drive memory and RAM being used? Can anyone explain this for me?
