Stupid question and really embarrased about it, I just bought a hard drive for this old pc, to install win7 onto, what came was not what I expected.
First its a notebook Seagate hard drive 320GB model reference ST320LM001 - it didnt click with me when I ordered it - DOH! - its really small, though it is not an issue, I could use it in the wifes laptop if push comes to shove.
Question - could I use it in this desktop pc, it currently uses a sata hard drive with the associated cable connectors i.e. the red cable for the data transfer (are the connectors to the physical drive different between 3.5" and 2.5" ?).
It has adapted leads into a molex (old ata white socket) to a black power sata drive connector (all done by the system builder many moons ago).
If need be I could just get a like for like WD green sata drive i.e. look for the latest model version of the installed hard drive, but I want a seagate as they appear to be quite reliable - although this one has preformed admirably over the years.
Thanking you in advance. - OH and I wanted a clean install to a new drive and not overwrite the xp in the short term - or dual boot - or partition.
