My grandson has a H.P. Pavilion dv6500 laptop. yes its a dinosaur right now but aside from a staying on problem is works good with an upgraded ram. The serial number is KC305UA#ABA. It has an amd turio-u 44x2 mobile technology tl-60 2 ghz with a 4 ghz memory. It is a 32 bit system. The battery number is HSTNN-IB46. Pt. no 441243-141. Problem is the computer will not stay on longer than 5 minutes. The battery does not stay charged for no more than a few minutes( the battery problem) and when the battery is out and its on A/C power, it stays on for the 5 minutes, then shuts off. He said and his step dad says its the battery or power supply. I do not have the computer with me as he uses it when its working which is very rare at home. Would like any suggestions on handling the problem and what to check. I was thinking overheating but I don't know if the computer gets hot to the touch or not if its overheating. Let me know if the computer gets hot. It does not on his computer. Also is it possible that he has too much going on and it shuts down on its own from being overloaded. He has a lot of things on startup and it takes it a while to work. I told him all he needs is his anti-virus on startup which is what I have. I managed to shut a few things down last visit and it seemed to keep it on longer than the 5 minutes. He has about 25 things running on startup and he says he needs them all but I don't think so he is just worried about losing everything by shutting them off, most of the things on his startup are the games he plays which are not needed on startup. Any ideas to start with would be greatly appreciated as do not want to spend money on a battery if the computer is going. Also any ideas on where to look for a battery for the dinosaur besides ebay? Maybe a little help finding something out about his computer.
