Hi all. HP pavillion Dv7 laptop has had the known heat problem and for the past year or so would overheat while gaming and just crash going completely dead. I would wait 30 minutes, start it up and let the fan run until it cooled a bit more - not going back to the games. It finally died a week ago and per the HP "count the flickering LED lights" advise the CPU failed. I am now considering pulling the HD and using it as a USB external on my new desktop. Old system was Win7 (64) and new is Win8 (64), I anticipate it will be set as a slave but is there anything I am overlooking? It has loads of photos, my iTunes music etc that I want to keep. Thanks for the comments,
