I asked a while back about my grandson's laptop which when booted would work only in safemode or with an external monitor. That post can be found here http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/1...k-monitor.html. I thought it was resolved when I downloaded and installed a new driver for the monitor. However, after my grandson had it for about a week, the monitor, once again went out.
What seems to happen now is it will boot normally but the monitor only works for about 10 to 15 minutes then it suddenly either goes blank, or it sometimes has small greenish pinstripes in a vertical pattern. I have to force close it and it can't be rebooted for a few hours. [It can be rebooted, but the monitor stays black is what I mean] When this happens, it will no longer boot in safemode and the external monitor also stays black.
In the last couple days, it has stopped getting into windows, but the windows logo comes up and just before entering the windows screen, it goes blank at that point.
I'm trying to figure out if it might be the video card and whether it is worth purchasing a new one or if someone else has any other suggestions.
I know these laptops seem to be notorious for overheating. We sent it back to the company when it was still under warranty and they supposedly fixed it, but it still ran rather warm.
Some info that might be helpful:
HP Pavilion dv5-1125nr Vista 64 bit laptop
Video
* Graphics Processor / Vendor ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200
* Total Available Graphics Memory 1918.0 MB
Thank you for any help.
