Have used an Nvidia decoder (5+ years ago) but, recalling that it would not play back a number of dvd movies...

Am considering hooking a stand-alone dvd player to my pc (non-MAC) if this can be done reasonably easy.
- Can it?
- Also, what decoder can play back most all movies (maybe Blueray too) for my setup?
- Might another graphics card alone be able to do the trick without a "decoder". And is decoding at the hardware level more reliable than these plugin solutions?
