Toshiba satellite l5000d

I have the above laptop - last week it said battery was flat and running by the power from the mains lead.

At the weekend when I plugged in the mains lead it was dead altogether with no lights on etc - took battery out etc but still no joy.

Any suggestions welcome please ?
