Upgrade

Hi,
I need to upgrade my existing computer which is based on a Gigabyte 81875 Motherboard fitted with a 2.8 Pentium 4 CPU. I have 2*1GB internal DDR Ram, 512MB GeForce 7300 GT Graphics, SB Live Value Sound Card, An unused 512Gb GeForce 6200 AGP Graphics Card, 3*1TB IDE HDD’s, 1*IDE CD-Rom Drive, 3*USB Printers/Scanners and various USB external HDD’s & CD-Roms.

I need to keep my HDD’s, 1 of which is a clone of my system HDD. The existing motherboard has only 2 IDE connectors which means I must continually keep swopping HDD’s/CD-Rom.

The reason for upgrading is that 1 of the IDE sockets doesn’t appear to be working correctly as whichever of the HDD’s I connect to it runs/loads very slowly, ie bootup from the affected IDE takes about 7 minutes as against 3-4 mins for the working IDE.

I need the IDE System HDD as I have too many programs which rely on XP Pro which is only 32 bit.

I’m unsure where to start as I don’t know if the new USB3 ports support USB2 etc. Can I get a motherboard which has AGP Pro slots, PCI & PCI Express,?

My power supply is a 550w Corsair is this large enough?

I don’t want a gaming machine but I have 2 monitors and need a reasonable Graphics card for my Photographic work.

Is there any other info you require to advise me?

Any help would be appreciated as I’m lost when it comes to compatibility issues.

Regards,

Dave
