After getting some brilliant help with my desktop PC (thanks Mark1956) I thought I would try to raise my laptop from the dead. It died two years ago, probably malware related, and has been gathering dust ever since. When I connect the power pack and start it up, the Dell Inspiron 8600 fails to go to windows (it was XP that was originally running on it) and instead just has a black screen with a flashing cursor. I'm not bothered about anything on the hard disk, but it would be interesting to get it running again - or recycle it if I can't get it running again. At least I feel I would have tried. Unfortunately, as the laptop isn't operating at all, I can't download or run TSG SysInfo. I can enter Setup via F2, but don't know whether that helps - and certainly don't want to alter anything on my own in Setup, as I'm not that knowledgable. I can also access F12 Diagnostics, which runs and seems to Pass all sections, but then stops saying "No Diagnostics Utility Partition" and hangs there. Anyone interested in a challenge ... ?
