My WD 250GB HDD just bricked on me.
I'm not sure whether or not if it was a virus or if the HDD was faulty.
I was running windows 8 and all of the sudden everything started to run slow. I restarted it to see if that would resolve the problem. It then started "ok," but eventually Windows 8 said it came across an error and had to close it down. Well when it closed down it wouldn't boot it anymore. I went to the Bios setup and it showed that there was something in the sata port that the HDD was in, but it didn't show the name of the actual HDD. I then hooked it up to another machine and run it as a second HDD, but the other machine plain didn't even recognize anything in the Sata.
I had built this thing since last week, since then I had been running it without virus protector until I got the key for one. I know, I know. But I was running it through our server, as well as windows firewall, for whatever that's worth. I wasn't going to any websites either, for obvious reason. Although, thinking about it now it may be possible that someone could have used it when I wasn't there.
Does anyone know if this sounds like a virus or a faulty HDD? I need to know whether I should attempt to try to reformat, somehow. Or if I needed to exchange it out for a new one.
