office jet pro 8500 -- the hp imaging device was not found

I have used the Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless device for several years and never had this problem. Had to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium recently and now am getting "The HP imaging device was not found" pop up error message. Same desktop computer before and after the Windows reinstall.

I have the printer software from the HP site and have installed/uninstalled/reinstalled several times with the same result.

Anyone know of a way to deal with this?
