When I connect my external hard drive to a laptop, it has a clicking noise where there are 2 each time, and it happens 11 times. It doesn't show up in My Computer, so I have no option to explore it and cannot do anything which requires referring to it by a drive number, like a disk check.
However, it is recognized as being connected because the USB option to safely remove it comes up.
In disk manager when I try to initialize it in order to be able to assign a drive number, I get a CRC error, and sometimes it won't even let me click on Initialize
Due to my old laptop recently being broken, this extra HDD is the only place where my files are stored so I really don't want to do anything which will lose them, and am desperate to get it back as there are years of photos on there.
What can I do?!
