Start Fault

Hey guys,

This one really has my head pickled so maybe one of you will have a better idea than me. My mother's computer has been funny lately and i have now got it here to see if i can repair it. The problem ...

Initially when i plugged the computer in it started up and came on to the "start windows normally or start windows repair" screen. So naturally i clicked windows repair, this caused the computer to shut down, the power light went out completely and i had to unplug the computer for several minutes in order to restart it.

So second time around i came back to the same screen "start windows normally or start windows repair", so this time i clicked start windows normally. Yet again the computer has closed itself down, power light has gone out and i had to unplug it from the wall in order to get it to restart.

So third time around i have started the computer and as i browsed the tinterweb for some ideas the computer has decided to run start up repair on its own and is currently carrying out this process. I do suspect it will close itself again at some point.

Any ideas whats going on?

Note - I have also checked all connections inside of the computer and cleared any dust. Mechanically everything seems in order,
