RAM compatibility problem

Hello. I recently ran into a RAM compatibility problem that I've never encountered before.

Motherboard: ASUS P5G41T-M LX PLUS (latest BIOS installed)

I turn the qualified vendor list into a picture for your convenience:
Attachment 231894

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (1066 FSB)

old RAM: one stick of 4GB DDR3 1066

new RAM: two sticks of 4GB DDR3 1066

So here's the problem: The computer was running fine with the old RAM installed. No issues. I wanted to upgrade the RAM, however DDR3 1066 seems to be slim pickings these days. I went with the 2x4GB G.Skill set linked above. The PC will not POST with the new RAM installed. I tried the new RAM in another computer and it tested OK, so I know the RAM isn't bad and that's it's just not compatible with the mobo.

When I was buying the RAM, I noticed that it said under features, "Compatible with Intel LGA1155/LGA1156" but not LGA775. I was thinking that was the typical marketing BS that we're all kind of used to. Just to let the average consumer know that it's compatible with current available hardware. I was just paying attention to the type and speed of the RAM.

When I got the RAM in the mail, I noticed on the packaging (which you can see in one of the pictures on Newegg) it even says, "Designed for Intel LGA1156 Core i5 and Core i7". I again just thought it was marketing BS. But now that the RAM doesn't work, I'm wondering if it's actually not compatible with the chipset. I mean, I've heard of RAM and mobo combos that just don't play nice together despite compatible specs, but I've never heard of RAM not being compatible with chipsets despite all the other specs matching. I tried to Google for this, and I did find one forum where some one suggested that RAM can be incompatible with a chipset.

So is it true that RAM can be incompatible with certain chipsets despite all the specs matching?

Like I said, DDR3 1066 seems to be slim pickings right now. The only other set available on Newegg right now is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146746

Neither Mushkin or G.Skill are listed on the QVL. The Mushkin set is also only 4GB (veresus the 8GB I wanted to install).

I also thought about just getting another stick of the old RAM, but it's no longer for sale. I can find it ebay/Amazon but for ridiculous prices.

Now, this mobo supports RAM speeds of 1333(OC). I realize I'd have to overclock to get that speed. But should it be possible to install 1333 RAM and let it run at 1066? I checked the Newegg Memory Finder Tool and it lists 1333 as compatible with that mobo.

What RAM would you get from Newegg for this mobo? It has to be Newegg since I have store credit there from the returned G.Skill RAM that didn't work.

Thanks for any input!
