My old Hard drive began crashing in my laptop so I recently purchased a new Crucial SSD to relpace it which arrived today. The problem is that the laptop has no CD drive to use my Windows 7 reinstall disk and I only have an external hard drive otherwise with which to reinstall Windows 7 on to the new SSD .
So far I have tried:
-copying files from the win7 disk to the ext drive, and preparing it for booting on the laptop, but it will not appear in the boot list at all
-using PWboost to create a bootable external HD installer, same again, did not show up in the boot list
-using the windows usb boot installer program, but the external hard drive doesnt show up when within this program even....
I need to get the laptop up and running ASAP, otherwise I would just ask the manufacturer to send out a bootable usb for me, so am heading to my local shop to pick up a USB stick of suitable size tomorrow, anyone here have any tips on how to get this working with just the external hard drive?
Sorry if I have ommited information!
