I put together my first rig this weekend and I've come across a few quirks, but this is the first I haven't been able to figure out with google and I've just about had it with random sound issues with one of these drivers to begin with (Realtek HDA, had some serious trouble getting my computer to acknowledge I had a microphone.)
My monitor (just an old tv) is getting sound via the HDMI cable to my graphics card which is using the audio drivers from that (NVIDIA Audio). My headset is using the front panel audio connected to the motherboard, which is using a separate driver (Realtek HDA). If I plug in my headset any programs opened before plugging in still play through the monitor, and those opened after through the headset. The same thing happens when I unplug the headset, those playing through it before unplugging keep (trying) to play through it.
I can easily remedy this just by closing and reopening all of my programs whenever I switch, but I sometimes switch often enough that this is a bit of a hassle. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening?
Edit: More anomalies. My sound mixer is denying skype. It will appear in the mixer for a few minutes, then go away. (No unplugging involved) I haven't been able to find a specific cause for this yet or a set of circumstances that causes it.
