So I recently installed an SSD in my HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 laptop to use as a boot drive and then use a caddy to convert my previous "all-in-one" hard drive to one just for storage. Everything went fine at first.... until I deleted all of the Windows OS files on my previous "all-in-one" hard drive. All of a sudden, after installing windows updates and shutting down, my computer would no longer boot and was stuck in a boot loop with no way of getting out. I thought it was the windows updates that messed my SSD up. So after countless searching online and watching youtube videos on how to fix this problem I just gave up.
Fast foward 3 days... Since I don't have money to buy another SSD and want to access my old files really badly, I decided to convert my old "all-in-one" hard drive to an external drive to try to access the files on my desktop PC. However, it does not work! Then I tried booting up my HP Pavilion laptop (with my new SSD boot drive still inside) and wahlah! It boots up like new!
Basically, I am wondering why deleting system files on my OLD, secondary hard drive affected the booting of Windows of my entire laptop? Moreover, I am wondering why my old "all-in-one" hard drive doesn't seem to work as an external hard drive any more. I don't even see the device/volume at all when I plug it in to my desktop PC like I used to before. I have a lot of files on there and hope that I can still access them. Someone please help me understand this mystery! Thank you!
