Corrupt 4TB Seagate HD?

Hello, so unfortunately I turned on my computer this morning only to find out my 4TB Seagate HD (internal) must have crashed or got corrupted because I could no longer see it in my computer and when I open it in disk management i get prompted to initialize the drive. I should only get that message if it was a brand new, barebone drive (which its not as i've had it for several months now). Obviously I am left with two options - either initialize it as MBR or GPT and since its 4TB I chosed GPT.

Now the most puzzling thing is that in disk management it shows it having 1.6 TB free space; even though I created it as one partition and assigned it a different drive letter. My guess is that possibly the other 2 TB was my old data but I can't view it in disk management. I've gone through reformatting the drive and even went through the route of diskpart in cmd ... (which also shows it as 1.6 TB).

Is it possible that it is holding my old data hostage ? And if so how would I go about completely clearing out the hard drive? Just to note I ran a disk check and surprisingly came up with no bad sectors or errors... any feedback is appreciated as I am pretty lost on this one. Also a similar issue happened a few months prior with all the data on the drive being wiped one morning I booted up but it retained the drive format / letter. I also did a disk check after that incident with no issues since then.
