I posted this last night to another tech help forum, but I wanted to try here, too, and see if I get anymore help! Thank you!
Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II N640 Dual-Core Processor, AMD64 Family 16 Model 6 Stepping 3
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 5882 Mb
Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470, 512 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 456497 MB, Free - 141233 MB; D: Total - 20137 MB, Free - 2882 MB; G: Total - 99 MB, Free - 88 MB;
Motherboard: Hewlett-Packard, 1441
Antivirus: Microsoft Security Essentials, Updated and Enabled (I also have norton, I installed MSE last night to do a second scan just to make sure norton was right)
Computer: HP Pavilion dv6z-3100 CTO Entertainmet Notebook PC
System: Windows 7
Keyboard: Default - Standard PS/2
"Earlier while playing a game (no problems with this game previously, no changes to game or PC made), Caps Lock turned on and would not turn off again. After restarting, I found that there were multiple other keys not functioning as well - N, B, delete. Caps Lock also began turning on and off without being touched. The OSK cotinued to show it as on, even when it wasn't, but the other keys all appeared normal. no keys could be used in OSK while Caps Lock appeared to be pressed. I disabled Caps Lock using Sharp Keys, and all keys, including N and B function properly in OSK, but not using the keyboard itself.
I have tried restarting, restoring (to a restore point from last week), unplugging/removing Battery and pressing the start up key for 30 seconds, uninstalling the keyboard driver, running norton virus scans and Microsoft security essentials virus scans, and more.
I've also noticed my mouse (default touch pad) seems to 'stick' sometimes since then, and I have to press alt to get it to move again.
I would assume the keys were just shot, but all of them stopped functioning at the exact same time, with no prior warnig or troubles, and my laptop was repaired only a couple months ago, when we sent it back for minor repairs and it was damaged badly in shipping. It's also been cleaned recently, and the keys press easily.
I've found a few posts with the exact same keys malfunctioning, but there were few replies.
It's no longer under warranty, and the last idea I have would be to do a factory reset.
It seems almost as if I've 'locked' it with some key combination? I had problems with numlock before, where it made certain keys nonfunctional, but resolved them after a couple hours of working at them.
Any suggestions?"
I have since noticed the windows key also does not work. Everything else seems to, including function keys, arrow keys, ctrl, alt, etc. However, pressing and holding arrow keys and backspace doesn't continue the usual effect (scrolling continually while arrow is held, or deleting until backspace is released)
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I plan to try a factory restore as a last resort, but I really hope this is just some silly key combo I hit while gaming.
