PXE-E53: No boot filename received

I bought a refurbished Desktop PC off tiger direct (By Joy Systems) this past Dec2013.

Dell 780 Desktop PC - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.00GHz, 6GB DDR3, 1TB HDD, DVDRW, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. You can see it here for more specs:

It was running beautifully for the first month. It's a long story after that.

Skype was using 300k vs the usual 160k in my processes suddenly, so after some troubleshooting I uninstalled it, assuming a reinstall would solve the issue. Skype's site recommended deleting everything with the term "skype" in it from my registry for a totally clean uninstall... I still don't know if this ultimately screwed me over or not, but that's what I did. I didn't delete everything because I started having second thoughts, though. After reinstalling skype the high useage continued, but I figured out why; it was some influx of skype not saving my "no history" setting and remembering 1400+ messages in one sitting. Ultimately reinstalling was unnessacary, I was just impatient.

So while I was doing that, I restarted and got this:

Google searches said it was associated with Visual Studio, which is not listed in my add/remove programs. It didn't seem to effect anything so I ignored it... Then my internet gradually stopped loading, which I originally thought was due my new roomate's extended wifi use because it was really sporadic and would work fine other times, but it wasn't just connectivity after a while. Skype and Chrome would crash outright, so I'd restart- and booting would take a long time suddenly. One time (I can't remember exactly when) I had a black screen that said "Windows is loading files.." with a loading bar. Also, my CPU usage in the task manager is often at 0% which I was told was unusual.

I was scared my tinkering came back to haunt me, so I opted for a system restore to before I uninstalled Skype. It didn't work at first because my antivirus was on, but I also received this during boot up:
Port-00: Hard Distk, Hitachi HDS721010KLA330
SMART command failed.

However, it booted up anyway (to tell me the system restore was unsuccessful.) I had to boot in safe mode to complete the system restore, which worked the 3rd time, but ever since the first failed attempt I'd almost always get that Hitatchi error on startup and restarting.

I'm worried that because system restore doesn't delete/replace files, it didn't fix the things in the registry I'd deleted. Yesterday everything running started freezing and unfreezing sporadically, crashing sometimes, working again then freezing again: iTunes, skype, chrome, a painting program, and windows explorer/my desktop before I forced shut down. After rebooting, the hitatchi error returned, accompanied by:

Googling "PXE-e53: No boot filename recieved" is what led me here, realizing it was a HDD issue. It happened once before during a windows update that required a restart (I got it to boot by force shutdown/regular startup that time.) If I hit F1 to retry, it just repeats itself. If I hit f12 (Boot options) at startup, I can select the following:

Boot Device Menu
  • * Hitachi HDS721010KLA (highlighted)
  • * Onboard or UB CDROM drive
  • * Onboard Network Controller
  • *System Setup
  • *Diagnostics
  • *Intel(R) Manegement Engine BIOS Extension (MEBx)
  • Use Up/down arrows to highlight desired item.
  • Use enter to select highlighted item.

I picked Hitatchi again, and it unexpectedly it booted up to my desktop. I saved all important files to an external and afterwards got this:

I haven't tried booting to the desktop since this error, which was early this morning (1-2am or so)

I also went into system setup today, here's my boot sequence:

I could reorder my bootup to put hitachi first if anyone thinks I should, I have seen some forums suggesting it.

And my NIC setup:

I was wondering if turning off RAID + enabling ImageServer instead of PXE would be okay/good/better, I think my OS is on the HDD, not a server? I don't know if this will help the overall issue but if anyone thinks I should, let me know.

This computer didn't come with a windows 7 installation CD but did have a product key. It's still plenty under the 1 year warranty, but... I told the whole story because I feel like I induced this somehow. It was 100% fine before I touched the registry. I thought it'd be fine if it was just skype content since I'd be reinstalling it anyway I thought they'd be recreated, but I've never touched regedit before this so I really don't know anymore. Unfortunately I couldn't tell you what I'd deleted. I'm just confused as to how it could really muck my HD up this much, I'm not a total stranger to the workings of a computer.

I am willing to send it in if I absolutely have to, but I was hoping I could get some help for my circumstances first to see if there's a way to repair the registry or to reset my HDD somehow, or if someone can piece together the chain of events in a way I can't. Or if what I did is or isn't totally relevant to this issue.

Any advice is wholeheartedly appreciated.. I'm at a loss.
