Verbatim USB HDD not recognised in Windows 8.1

Hello all! I've googled for hours and even searched here to no good... so I'd really appreciate your help.

I have a 1TB external USB Vermatim HDD which I unplugged accidentally while it was transferring some files to my Desktop. After plugging it back again, My PC won't recognise it under Devices and Drivers, neither it will appear in Disk Management in any way (no letter, no blank letter, nothing at all).

Nonetheless, the HDD blue light turns on when I plug it in, Windows does the plugging & unplugging sound when I do so, I can safely remove it by the name "Portable USB 3.0 drive" and I can see it under Unspecified in Devices and Printers.

I've tried different ports, cables and computers, the response is always the same.

I'm using Windows 8.1, if that's any help.

Thanks in advance for your help, I know it's not physical failure so I have hopes of making the drive usable again... as for the data inside, I certainly don't care anymore, I just need it to be usable!

:)
