Extend Multiple Displays Through 1 HDMI Port

Is it possible with one hdmi output port on my laptop to connect that to a device which is then connected to two monitors with hdmi in to extend a display from my laptop instead of duplicating the displays?

I have seen hdmi splitters, but all that does is mirror the display I believe. I have also seen hdmi switches which only allows you to output to one screen at a time.

I have not seen any device that can extend the monitor display through hdmi, so I would say it doesn't exist, but thought I would ask first. Thanks.
