Laptop Battery Not Present

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-A417M and for some time now it has only worked off AC. I've been under the assumption that the battery was shot. I've just bought a new battery and when it's been replaced it's exactly the same problem.
I've tried the steps of uninstalling it via Device Manager but to no avail.

Any advice would be greatly welcomed.
