Hi guys... This is a hope and a prayer here. I have got a Seagate Expansion External Drive P/N 9SF2A6-500 that has worked beautifully up until this morning. I run Ubuntu Linux and all of a sudden it has stopped mounting the drive. It failed to auto mount it this morning through fstab, so I ran fdisk -l and the OS does see the drive. I tried to mount it manually and it failed, giving this in the system log:
[17093.723544] EXT4-fs (sdg1): can't read group descriptor 35
[17102.016447] sd 8:0:0:0: [sdg] Unhandled sense code
[17102.016457] sd 8:0:0:0: [sdg] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE
[17102.016465] sd 8:0:0:0: [sdg] Sense Key : Medium Error [current]
[17102.016475] Info fld=0x0
[17102.016478] sd 8:0:0:0: [sdg] Add. Sense: Unrecovered read error
[17102.016488] sd 8:0:0:0: [sdg] CDB: Read(10): 28 00 00 00 01 5f 00 00 08 00
[17102.016504] end_request: I/O error, dev sdg, sector 351
[17102.016571] EXT4-fs (sdg1): can't read group descriptor 35
Is there anything that I can do to pull the data off this drive short of a recovery service? I know the answer is no, but I'd regret never having asked. Thanks in advance...
