SATA SSD in IDE LAPTOP

Is there anyway at all to mount a SATA SSD in an IDE laptop? I've seen some adapters but none seem small enough. Was wondering if there are any smaller ones or any for using the DVD drive bay instead?

I know the bottleneck is the IDE controller and an SSD is 'pointless' yet I have an SSD and it means it won't break if the laptop is dropped etc.
Apart from the IDE it is a fairly good laptop and I was very surprised it used IDE
