PC Suddenly Shutting Down

Hi there

About a couple of weeks ago I noticed that my work pc was struggling to boot up. Within, say, 5 seconds it was turning off. (not a windows shut down message but power just suddenly cut). It was taking 2 or 3 attempts to reach the desktop and stay on. At its worst I hit the power button and within about 1/4 of a second it just turns off again.

Last week I started getting a 'beep error' and an error message saying hit F1 to continue during the boot up process. Date and time settings lost. I had to manually set the time every time it booted.

I have changed my power lead. I have changed the internal battery and I have cleaned the inside of the pc to make sure it wasnt an overheating issue. I ahve also had a look at the switch at the front and that seems ok. Still the problem persists. I'm not keen on ever shutting the thing down at the moment as its running mostly fine when it boots. I have tried a couple of new sticks of compatible RAM but it didnt like that and refused to start up. I am back down to the meagre 512mb ram now. (thats a side issue though).

Any ideas folks? BIOS or power supply issue?
