This has been a common problem among many CD and DVD drives over many years. The drives just eventually get so the drawers just won't open. It'll bumpitty-bump a few times attempting to open; but, it just won't open either by the button or by "eject" in Computer. The problem is OS independent.
I can open the drive manually via a straightened paper clip and it will burn a DVD just fine.
Has anyone ever torn into one of these and found the cause -- and maybe a fix?
Lubrication didn't help.
I did disassemble one once and found there was a magnet in there that clamps to another piece of metal at the center of the disk. I found if I weakened the magnetic clamping by reducing the amount of metal, it would then open as needed. What I did was drill a lot of tiny holes into the piece of metal the magnet closed onto, reducing its mass. But that was quite a lot of tedious work.
