Changed screen res for HDMI connection. Screwed up my laptop!

Hey folks!

Recently purchased a new laptop - http://www.samsung.com/hk_en/consume...NP300E5C-S02HK (However I'm on Windows 7)

I went about trying to plug it into my television (Toshiba 40BV701B) via an HDMI cable and had the notorious problem of not being able to find the right screen resolution. I went into display settings and started mucking around to find the right one. However, I must've selected a resolution setting that was too bizarre or something (think I went really high) because the image didn't show up on the TV (nor on the laptop as I had set the laptop screen to switch off when plugged into the TV) and after a few seconds of nothing my laptop made its 'something has been removed/unplugged' sound and the screen flicked back on. A few seconds more and it would make the sound of 'something has been plugged in' before switching its screen off and seemingly trying to connect to the TV again. This would repeat for as long as the HDMI cable was connected.

I get the feeling that I could sort the problem by changing the res for when the laptop is plugged into the TV, but the only way I know how to do that is when the laptop is plugged into my TV and there is no longer any screen working when this happens! I probably should have done a system restart at the time, but think I have left it far too long now.

Any help would be much appreciated,
Cheers!
