I know Chromecast is not yet available in Canadian stores, but I love the idea of it. If I bought it in the states (I only live 20 minutes from the border) would it work in Canada?

LAN Port

Hello TSG, first time poster but I have resolved other issues before with the knowledge here.
I have a dell XPS L702x, I haven't used the LAN port for some time (maybe a year, I use wireless almost all of the time) and when I went to use it 2 days ago I found it didn't work, so I looked in the device manage to see if something was wrong and it wasn't there, then I re downloaded the drivers from dell and it says that the device couldn't be found. Then I looked into the bios at boot up to see if it was disabled somehow......I do not even seen an option for it..... I have searched a bit and I am at a lost still.....any help would be greatly appreciated......thank you in advance for any hope, I hope I gave you enough information.

hp Pavilion Dv7-3188c1 constant fan speed

Hello all,
Ok I have a hp Pavilion Dv7-3188c1 that has a constant (slower) fan speed no matter what I do. Running a computational intensive application and it will not throttle up making the computer heat up a bit more than it should. It has never got up to critical or crashed. Computer otherwise works great. I have updated the bios and supoidly it fixes a fan issue, but no change. Here is the really odd part: it run full speed for a few seconds when I am installing the BIOS so I know the fan CAN speed up. It also runs fast few seconds upon boot. Then the fan throttles down and stays there.

Anyone ever run into this? Any ideas on fixing it (if possible)? I am guessing it is error in the bios of some sort, but it is odd that HP reports fixing a fan issue, and this doesn't seem to help lol. I am using the sp50586.exe which is the last BIOS released for this computer (released 2010-10-22). sp48144.exe (released Released: 2010-04-19) was suppose to fix the fan behavior (or at least that is what they say) but I didn't see any difference.

I recently did a System repair of Win 7 using Upgrade install, thereafter I noticed that the system was slow in responding with a Revolving Circle associated with the cursor,

After checking all Drivers and ensuring no Mal/Spyware was present and the system was Clean, I ran CPUID CPU-Z and noticed under the Memory Tab that DDR3 was recognised but the Dual Channel was BLANK (see Attachment in Word)

A DDS profile also available, should it be required

Any Thoughts please

m91xx.sys BSOD

I've been constantly getting blue screens which always say the same thing: INTERRUPT_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED and further down it says m91xx.sys.

The thing is I'm using the same computer right now to type this post and I'm not in safe mode. I will describe the behavior but first I will tell you what hardware changes I have made.

Today I bought a 3TB SATAIII HDD. The name in device manager is ST3000DM001-1CH166. Pretty sure it's Seagate...
In order to install it I had to plug it in myself and the cable management in my computer is non-existent. There were cables absolutely everywhere, all tangled up all over the place. Took me half an hour to get the thing plugged in and also make sure the other HDDs were still plugged in.

So I am using a 120GB OCZ solid state for my operating system (Windows 7) and I also already had 2x500GB HDDs for storage. So once I added this one first I couldn't get the computer to work properly because I had no signal to the monitor.

Fiddled around with the cords inside made sure everything was plugged in, etc, fast forward another half an hour and I had windows starting up. First time it started up, I got that blue screen. I turned it off and went to google the error. I tried the chksdk thing via windows 7 disk setup. It reported no errors.

I also tried sfc/scannow but it keeps saying there is a repair pending and it needs to restart. So I try to restart and it says the same thing.

Anyway somehow I had it in windows and it was working fine for over an hour. I was copying stuff onto the new HDD (not cutting, in fear of another BSOD). Went away for a bit came back, it's still good, so I was watching youtube for a bit.

At one point I realized my steam sounds weren't working (this is a separate issue that I know how to fix, I simply had to restart it after plugging in my speakers). I restarted Steam and BAM, blue screen again.

I have copied what Windows gave me when I started up again:

I will try to attach the 2 files, the .xml is too long to print and the .dmp I don't know how to open.

Ok, attached them both in a .zip file, I hope it worked. I've included as much detail as I can, I am pretty sure this has something to do with adding this new HDD, but like I said the fact that I'm posting this on the problem computer even though sometimes it just crashes as soon as I log in, is strange.

Hey guys,

I will try to make it short and honest.
I have macbook retina and my warranty is ending soon.
I went to apple and made me an appointment and came up with some stuff hoping ill get a replacement.
What they offered me is a logic board replacement, now I am wondering if that means only motherboard aka logic board or retina macbooks have graphic card, memory slot and everything in it and therefore replacement of logic board would mean moreless replacement of the whole inners.

Thank you a lot

Solved: Can't identify this video controller and need driver

The computer is an AcerPower S285 and supposedly has an SiS video controller. The only drivers available from the SiS site are for Windows 7 are for 64-bit (that I have been able to find) and this one is running 32-bit. I know drivers must be available as it has been running them well until the hard disk failed this week.

I have downloaded several graphics drivers from SiS; but, none of them work and I have no definitive ID on the video controller.

Power supply question

Guys I have an extra 250 watt power supply I want to use as a "tester".

I haven't tried this yet, but I want to test out some case fans.. Can I plug in the power supply, and then the fans? will they work, or do I need to jumper a couple of pins on the main mother board hook up? or put a switch in there, like there would be if the Power supply was hooked to a mother board?

Thanks..

Hey all

Not sure whether this thread is in the right place or not if so please inform me and i will move it

however! this is my issue

about a week ago my computer started freezing randomly (have had no issues with it whatsoever since I have built it) the mouse and keyboard will be unresponsive BUT sound and anything visual still works its not like the whole thing is freezing up its just the mouse and keyboard. mostly freezes when I am in-game and at the moment it freezes within the first 5-10 minutes of play time when it first started it was once every 3-4 hours, now I am unable to play a game without it freezing and then restarting my pc (by hard booting which I don't like doing anyway)

it does not happen when in windows or using the internet just in game which I am not really sure

These are the things I have already done as creating my own thread about an issue is the last thing I usually do however I think I know what the issue is and that's the Motherboard...anyway!

I checked that all my devices and motherboard and GFX Card is up to date which they are

Reinstalled windows (started on windows 7, installed Windows 8 is still happening)

Formatted and had a complete fresh start as it where

tried using different mice and keyboards

currently this is all I can think of that I have done

My current computer build is

i5 2500k - CPU

Gigabyte Z68X-UD5-B3 - Motherboard

8gb Corsair Vengeance - RAM

2Tb Hamachi - Hard Drive

Windows 8 64bit

Gainward GTX 580 Phantom 3gb - GFX Card

Corsair TX 850 - PSU

If anyone reads this thank you! for taking the time to do so and if someone can help it will be greatly appreciated, if you need more information just let me know and I can provide

thanks again!

ImKable.

Cannot detect network driver

Hey,
I re-installed windows 7 on my laptop and now it won't detect my wireless network card (I use Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230). If I used devmgmt it won't turn up under network adapters. I tried installing the drivers, but it's not working since they can't find a network card that supports them. I've also tried reinstalling the chipset, but to no avail. In devmgmt I can find under other units something that is called networkscontroller, but it has a a yellow warning triangle with a ! inside it.

How can I get my wifi to work again? please help me

Hi guys, well yeah, I accidentally the bottom part of my motherboard of my laptop under the mouse buttons, not sure what I hit as I see no scratches but my sound no longer works. I have reset bios and reinstalled drivers to see if that would reset it or something but the problem is still there. Any ideas on if I have short circuited it and if there is a repair?

The laptop is an Acer aspire 5630. Running Win 7 if that matters

thanks for your time

Unknown computer issue drive or something else?

Newbie here. I have a 2 year old Dell laptop which is having some issues recently. The computer technically works fine but there are some hiccups which are worrisome and weren't there in the past. First, the hardware scan included with the computer is telling me that my hard drive is likely going to fail. It says that it fails a short smart test or something. I have also noticed some performance issues. It hangs/freezes every once in a while (which it didn't used to do only a month ago). Nothing has changed in terms of hardware software installed recently so I'm not sure what it could be. I recently got my first blue screen, but it went away before I could write anything down: something to the effect of iqrl not less than or equal (i think). I tried to google this but got confused by what it means. I had a hard drive issue about 6 months ago when the comp wouldnt start up b/c of a drive issue. But it ran some check disk and fixed the issue and it had been working fine since. I also had some issues in the past where a graphics card driver had a problem and caused the computer to hang once or twice but this was a while back. Anyways, technically the comp works but its giving me warning signs that something is going wrong. I use this machine for work and really would like to prevent a problem before it happens. What should I do? Should I take it to a repair shop? How will they find out whats wrong? SOrry if this is in the wrong section or something. This is the first time on the site for me. Thanks for any advice!

Buying advice for new laptop please

I am looking to buy a new laptop for my programming major at university. Thus, it has to be a very robust machine, with adequate cooling, 1920x1080 resolution and easy maintenance (easy to add and remove SATA II hdds).

Which brand should I get?
Please help me decide from this list:
http://www.alternate.be/html/product...html?navId=482

I heard that IBM ThinkPad is a good and robust brand.
Could you please help me decide which notebook would be suited for my requirements?

I am on a tight budget as well. Classes are starting tomorrow and I am going to be in big problems if I don't fix this issue soon.

My 3 year old HP Probook 4720s broke down (I think) because very regularly (up to the point it's not bearable anymore) I get the two following BSODs:
BSOD: 0xA0000001
BSOD: 116

I tried recovering from my clonezilla image. Didn't help.
I tried switching drivers. Didn't help.
So I am not sure if this is a hardware error but my friend tells me that my video card is fried (my laptop has horrible cooling). Again, that is something I am unsure of. I don't have the time to troubleshoot this and the truth is now I have an unstable machine and I need a stable one for classes.

My university office temporarily provides laptops for students with issues so it's not a permanent solution. I would probably get a laptop for a month or something. At home I also have an older laptop (but makes noise): MSI Vr610 and an old PC (single core 1.99 GHz, 2 GB RAM).

Should I buy a new laptop? I don't know.

I have an asus K55A notebook with Windows 8. The touchpad no long works properly when connected to the mains. The cursor is erratic and unusable. However the touchpad works normally when running on the battery. This fault occurred while my laptop was connected to the mains. I have rebooted but this did not cure it. I would appreciate any advice. The notebook is 8 months old and working normally in all other respects. Thank you.
