Hey guys I've got a Mac Mini here and a Windows 8 PC, however, I only have one keyboard. It's difficult for me to reach around to re-plug in the USB keyboards so I wanted to know if it's possible to somehow share the keyboard?

Thanks!

DVD Drive Clicking Noise Dell Latitude E 6530

The DVD-RW Drive consistently makes a clicking noise even though it is not operating with a disc. Then, when a blank disc is placed in the DVD-RW Drive, the blank disc swirls as if being read. This too happens periodically.
Troubleshooting Performed:
Performed Dell hardware diagnostics. No problems shown. Ran M/S Fix It. I was told the Detect Controller was fixed. I am not sure what this means? Performed the Fn+Power up for diagnostics and no problem shown.
When I leave the DVD tray out of the Laptop there is no noise. This is a brand new Dell Latitude E6530 with windows OS 7, 64 bit. Dell has replaced the DVD Drive with a new one, however, the new one still makes the clicking sound periodically. Please offer any suggestions as to a solution to this problem. Thank you.

Hello. When copying my drivers file to a CD, do I need to unzip them before copying? If so, how do I do that?

CPU Question

Hello, recently I've been playing a game called Cube World. Been playing it for almost a week now and the cpu usage has been average. Last night, while I was hosting my cube world server, I started to experience some lag and so I checked the CPU usage.. I have an AMD quad core processor and all 4 cores were at 100% usage! x.x So I immediately shut down the server and game and everything went back to normal. I then shut down my computer for the night. I really want to keep playing the game.. but not at the cost of my computer. x.x

Does anyone know why this happened all of the sudden? I tried running my game this morning on my non-server world and the CPU usage fluctuates between 50%-90%.. I'm not sure if that's normal or not. I did a virus scan and no viruses/malware/spyware was detected. And as of now the cpu usage is at 3%.

What can I do to reduce the cpu usage while playing my game? Is it even possible? Or do I need a new cpu? or a better graphics card to reduce the stress on the cpu? I would really like some expert advice on this >.<

Thank you for the taking the time to read my post!

Which GPU?

Hey everyone.
I've been looking for a new GPU. I have considered a few options. I plan on doing tripple monitor gaming so I thought the Gigabyte GTX 770 4gb version could be good. It's come down to whether I get the Gigabyte 4gb version, Asus 2gb card, or the Evga 2gb card. What do you think would be the best option? Would I really need the extra memory to run games across 3 monitors?
Thanks :)

Interesting Problem

Hey there everyone. So here is my problem. I bought a new blank hard drive. I installed windows but when I did, I wasn't paying attention and accidentally installed a 32 bit version on my 64 bit system. However it works fine. The real problem is I want to completely wipe the hard drive to a blank state again and install windows 7 64 bit like it originally came with but even when I try DBAN and I type autonuke, it goes to a black screen and stays there. I need to upgrade my system to 64 bit. The reason being is I created a system recovery disc from my windows 7 64bit that was there before, but because the 32 bit is on there it won't recognize my cd.

Internal DVD R/W no longer recognized

Hello everyone,

A month or so ago I updated to Win8, 64bit. That all went fine and everything has been working fine. The night before last the DVD R/W just stopped working.

When I open Windows Explorer the drive is recognized, at least there is a drive letter for it, it says DVD RW Drive (Z: ). Like I said it has been working. I have played movies, installed a PC DVD game, etc.

When I double click on the drive, trying to access the disk that is in the drive I get a popup window saying, Application not found.

Running the troubleshooter accomplishes nothing, it just runs in a circle. The going to the device manager I see the drive, there are no signs of anything wrong (no yellow icons, etc), properties say the device is working properly, and trying to update the driver says that the correct drive is already installed.

I cannot figure out what is going on.

As the login name suggest, my knowledge of things is limited, so please, if you have a suggestion, please explain how to accomplish what you are asking me to do.

Thank you in advance for any help you give me.

Ok and hello to all,

I spilled some liquid on one of my laptops , however I did immediately unplug it and followed all instructions on how to clean it. Left it to dry for about now 24hrs. However screen and display works fine but the tabs on the keyboard will not respond !!

Could that be indeed the damage or could it be a setting issue ?? I have not yet attached an external keyboard but will do so soon.

Any suggestions or experts out there ??

Thanks for the time to read it.

Saving data on old hard drive?

I have an old Seagate model ST310211A 10GB hard drive, that was in a PC with a bad mother board. Can I recover the data from it by making it a slave drive and putting it in another working PC. My concern is that the drive with the pictures has Wins 98 and the working PC has Win XP. I also have one with Win 7, but I figured the closer the better?
Am I on the right track? Or is there a better way to get the pictures off it. Don't have money for a pro to do it!

Thanks

Can't get two hard drives to work

I have a couple of 1tb hard drives that i want to sell, but I can't get them to show up in windows. I just want to confirm they work and format them.

When i used them i had them inside a NAS box with RAID 1, and i am convinced they are not broken as i have taken care of them.

Could the raid be the reason they don't show in windows?

Thanks.

What is "HSF/CLW/WC" referring to?

Hey guys!

I found this thread over at THG forums. (THG stands for Toms Hardware Guide, by the way.) The title of the thread is: "Which cpu cooler (HSF/CLW/WC) is the real best for overclocking 3770K?"

After some research I found that HSF stands for Heat Sink Fan. It's simply the heat sink for the CPU, with a fan on top of it. But what is CLW and WC? I'm guessing that WC stands for Water Cooling?... no? I'm sure it's not Water Closet! :D

If WC is Water Cooling, then what the hell is CLW?... CLean Water?...

Noob question, I know! But I have really never seen these abbreviations before.

What's the best socket 370 cooler?

Hey guys!

I am searching for an Intel socket 370 CPU cooler for an Intel Pentium III (Pentium 3), 733 MHz CPU. By "best" I mean one that, preferably, has a big heat sink to allow for better cooling at lower RPM. I simply want better cooling and quite computing. No overclocking!

I have done some research and found that Alpha PEP66U (from circa 2000/2001) was one of the most popular CPU coolers for Intel socket 370, among overclockers. What do you guys think about this one? Is it a good option for me? Alpha is a heat sink specialist from Japan, and if I'm not mistaken they are still producing these old coolers. It can still be ordered.

Do you have any other suggestions? Do you know of any other company in the world, that is still producing old Intel socket coolers, like the 370 or anything from the same era/generation?

Also, is it true that AMD 462 socket coolers are fully compatible with Intel 370 sockets?

Thanks in advance!

Motherboard or Power Supply

Hi! I have a computer (or maybe had) with an Asus M2v-MX SE motherboard with a dual core AMD processor, running XP Pro SP3. Over the last few months. maybe once every week or 2 weeks, it would freeze after booting into the OS. Mouse would freeze and couldn't crl-alt-delete to task manager. I had to unplug it, then reboot and it would be fine. The other day, as it booted the boot message screen came up in different colors within words, then everything had a green hue. The green hue continued after the OS came up. I was just checking mail before I went to work. When I came home, I turned on the computer---and nada. It didn't do anything, and a message appeared on the monitor---no signal. Not even the bios came up. I use the onboard video, so with the green hue I figured Motherboard. But since it sent no signal, now I'm thinking power supply. How can I determine the cause of the problem? I know I can't find a replacement motherboard---it's 7 years old. A month ago, I put in Crucial CT2KIT25664AA667 4gb, but I don't know how this would cause this problem as it hasn't froze since I installed the ram. Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Need help in RAID configuring disks

$

I am building a home server. I had someone put the basic structure and configuration together and am now trying to get it right. Here are the basics.

MOBO A8NSLI-Deluxe
Sata Back Plane for Disk management
Running Windows Home Server 2011.
4 Disks in RAID
  • 3-500 MB
  • 1-1.5 TB

My computer guy configured it so the MOBO is controlling a RAID 5 array. It is currently set at 465GB array in "RAID configuration Utility-Silicon Image Inc." Within that the array is broken up into a smaller C drive for system and the rest as storage.

What I want to do is migrate the server system configuration over to a separate Hard Drive, meaning one internally in the computer separate from the Back-Plane. Then run the server off that disk. Then reconfigure the Raid so that it uses:

3-WD Red 2.0 GB HDs configured in RAID 5 giving me roughly 4.0 of storage.

Since this whole configuration is so foreign to me with more layers than I am used to with the RAID configuration controlling the disks then WHS 2011 which is running on top of Server 2008, I am not sure where or how to apply changes and formatting. The steps as I see it are.

Format new hard drive. I have a 320GB HD I installed that is showing up in WHS 2011, that has already been formatted but has multiple partitions on it with nothing on them. Under computer management in WHS, I get a stunning number of options for disk formatting.
  1. New Spanned Volume
  2. New Striped Volume
  3. New Mirrored Volume
  4. New RAID 5 Volume
  5. Convert to Dynamic Disk
  6. Convert to GPT Disk

Which one of these should I use to format this HD to become a system drive?

What freeware should i use to copy the system onto the new disk?

With all these options in here will I be able to use the WHS control to create a mirrored volume out of two HDs to run a RAID 1 for my systems disk(s)?

Hi all

Just upgraded my sons computer with a new mother (AsRock FM2A55M-DGS Motherboard (Socket FM2, AMD A55 FCH, DDR3, 6 x S-ATA/600, Micro ATX, PCI-Express 2.0, AMD Radeon HD 7000) )
and a new processor ( AMD Athlon II X4 750K CPU - (Black) (Quad Core, 3.40GHz, 4MB, 100W, Socket FM2, AMD PowerNow! Technology) ) and 8GB of memory ( Komputerbay 8GB (2 X 4GB) DDR3 DIMM (240 pin) 1333Mhz PC3-10600 / PC3-10666 9-9-9-25 1.5v ) all checked and supposedly compatible according to my searches.
It has a 750 watt power supply and and a 1TB hard-drive with a sata dvd rom drive. When we turn it on we get a 5 beep, pause and another 5 beeps, nothing will s[park up other than the power.

Do not know what to do next, have c-mos'ed, have removed and replaced the memory, have even changed the power supply, and switched of all parts bar the motherboard and the hard-drive. (of course left the memory in) but to no avail any ideas.

When I get it to come on I will install Windows 7

Which is the better CPU

Which would be the better CPU for an always on Headless server that will idle 90% of the time?

Either the Intel® Core™ i7-4960HQ Processor

http://ark.intel.com/products/76088/...up-to-3_70-GHz
(is this a mobile chipset? I can't easily tell. If so can it be bought?!)

or this i5-4440S Processor
http://ark.intel.com/products/75040/...up-to-3_30-GHz

As far as I can tell both of these are mobile chips? Would these work in normal lga1150 motherboards? Are they even avaliable to purchase )or will be able)
If not what are the Desktop equivalents?
Thanks! :)

My problem is going to take a long time to describe, but think y'all need the info to understand what is going on...please bear with me: I have had a HP Deskjet D2445 for years...never a problem until one year ago, when I started printing out many articles from a DIY website. During this process, the printer stopped printing, & nothing will work. (I was so desperate, I paid Microsoft $200 last Dec....money thrown away, as they were unable to fix the problem & wouldn't return my money.) The printer icon never appears on "Computers and Devices" page in Network & Sharing Ctr. "Add a printer"? I've done it hundreds of times over the past year, but it disappears. Now for the really strange event: I can click "print article" on a webpage, & the printer icon will appear in the notification area. I move my cursor to printer icon, & it shows "one document pending for Jackie"...nothing happens. A few seconds later, cursor moved to icon again, & now it shows "0 documents pending for Jackie". During this process, the printer makes no noise or movement of working parts. The printer info shows it is ready to print, the "On" light is lit, not blinking, HP installed a new driver 2 weeks ago...nothing to show any kind of problem with the printer. I have to go to the public library to type & print letters. After a year (& $200) without a printer, it's driving me crazy (& believe me, it's a short trip). If there is ANYONE who can provide suggestions/answers/explanations, etc., please, please send them. Y'all cannot imagine how your info would be appreciated. Thank you for your time & computer/printer knowledge.

Hi, im having a problem with my videocard ( i guess)
there was a power outage in my area, and my tv couldnt find a hdmi signal after that,
but i powered out the computer for a while and held down the power button for some time,
then i got a hdmi signal, but after about 10- 15 min i got a screen from tv telling me there was no hdmi signal,
so i rebooted, and got a signal again, then after 10 new minutes, same problem,
i thought that maybe my videocard fan was fried,
and maybe that the video card got to hot and then stoped working / shut down,
but both fans are working , now when i was checking if the fans was indeed spinning,
after about 6 days of oftime, i turned it back on, and now its been running for about 30 min,
without any problems, what can be the problem?
im really in a loss of an explenation and would like to know what might be the problem,
so i can prevent it happen again in a critical moment.

Edit: my usb soundcard also made a click noise (from speakers) and no more sound was audible after hdmi signal lost.
