HELP: Samsung 840 EVO SSD Cloning Error

$

Hi Guys,

Bought a Samsung 840 EVO 250gb SSD yesterday and I've been attempting to clone it using the Samsung Data Migration software which comes with the SSD. Every time I've tried to run the programme I've been getting the following error:

"Error: Failed to retrieve Target disk information 205410[032262]"

A chronological look at things:

Put my new SSD into my PC, hooked everything up and turned it on (I've got numerous drive bays so I just slotted it in alongside my old HDD which I intend to keep for storage, using the SSD for things like my OS and online games).

Opened up My Computer, SSD wasn't there.

Tried to run the cloning programme, got the error the first time.

Found a guide talking me through making sure the new SSD was visible in the BIOS, and how to go about partitioning and formatting it to ensure it shows up in My Computer.

It now shows up in My Computer, I can copy files across onto it and such and so I try to clone it again (after reformatting it to ensure nothing was actually on it); still get the error.

Take a look at My Computer, the SSD had disappeared and had effectively 'un-partitioned' itself in the Disk Management section of Computer Management.

I've tried phoning Samsung Support here in the UK and frankly they were useless. I'm waiting on a form to be emailed to me for me to fill in my computer specs and whatever else they need to attempt to help me, but I figured I'd come to the internet to see if there is anyone else out there who has had this issue.

My computer specs are available if required and I would greatly appreciate any help given to me.

Cheers guys,

Isen.

Driver problems

Hello!

I recently reformatted my computer because Windows Installer started bugging out on me; basically I couldn't install anything.

Now after the reformat, I'm installing drivers for my hardware; I'm almost done except for my Nvidia GeForce 630M. When I try to install the driver for that, it tells me I need to install an Intel driver first. Exactly that, AN Intel driver. So, I'm left wondering what specific driver this is.

My question is: is there a way for me to get a clearer answer as to what driver this is? Or, is there a way for me to see which parts of my PC are Intel so that I can narrow it down form there? Also, do you guys have an idea as to what hardware should be updated before I can update the driver for my graphic card? As of now, I only know that my chipset and processor are Intel. I've also updated my chipset software but that hasn't fixed the problem.

Sorry for the clueless question, I'm just really stumped. I have tried doing research and going to the Intel site to try to fix it but I really don't have much of an idea where to go from here.

Thanks in advance!

Unallocated Hard Drive

I have a second hard drive that is in an enclosure so it basically operates like an external hard drive. Just recently it stopped showing up in "My Computer". It will make the noise like it is connected and I can see it in Device Manager, Devices and Printers and in Disk Management.
In Disk Management is shows as 18.18 GB Unallocated. I'm pretty sure the drive's full capacity is 320GB.
I was just reading about partitions and data recovery and it was starting to go over my head. I would like to keep the data if possible. I'm hoping a Mod can take me through the correct steps to do so.
Thanks in advance!

Lost transceiver USB for Microsoft keyboard & mouse

I lost the USB transceiver from my Microsoft Wireless Mouse and Keyboard 2000.

I contacted Microsoft but they don't sell the USB's by themselves - I would have to re-purchase the whole keyboard and mouse set again.

No one is selling the transceiver on eBay either. I'm wondering if there is some other kind of transceiver I can use instead - or maybe is it possible to just use regular old bluetooth?

Adding memory of different brand -Good or Bad>?

I just recently went 64 bit and now have a lift on my 4GB limit. I cannot afford much over $40 at the moment and was looking at getting this memory to go with what I already have:

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 9-9-9-24 1600 (PC3 12800)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231193

I already have this memory installed:
2x Kingston Technology HyperX Blu 2 GB 1600 (PC3 12800)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820104219

My question is will these different RAMs' work in conjuction together on this motherboard:
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 ATX AMD Motherboard

I have an intel DH61WW mobo, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, 8.1
It shipped able to handle up to i7 3rd Gen processors only. It can be updated to accept 3rd Gen which is what I have.

I seem to be in a loop while upgrading from a Pentium G840 to an i3770 K on this Intel DH61WW motherboard.
the Problem: It seems that I need version 8.x of Intel Management Firmware and I can't get to update past version 7.1.52.1176
According to this page, I need version 8.x to continue for updates to use Windows 8 & 8.1

So far, I have had the bios version update to
BEH 6110H.86A.0048.2012.1105.1520
I had the i7 installed but it acted confused. So I reinstalled the Pentium and the computer works but I
still can't get the Intel Management Firmware to update.
According to this page I am ready for 3rd Gen i7 but not unless Intel Management Firmware gets updated first

Building computer, how to choose components?

I'm going to build a gaming PC. I'm having trouble figuring out how to choose the components.

I'm mostly having trouble with the processor and graphics card. My problem is choosing from the hundreds out there.

Money shouldn't be a problem unless I bring it up..

I want an NVIDIA graphics card, but I have a hard time figuring out what the difference between them all is. And is which one is newest a good way to figure it out?

The processor is easier. I want Intel, I think i7. But there is still a lot of i7's out there..

For RAM, I'm not sure what company, but I'm thinking 16 GB or more.

And I have never figured this out,

There are 64-bit operating systems and you can only use over 4 GB of RAM if you have a 64-bit operating system or hardware. Is it the operating system or the hardware that needs to be 64-bit? And is there any hardware that's 64-bit and what 64-bit hardware do you need to use over 4 GB of RAM? And are 64-bit operating systems/hardware compatible with 32-bit operating systems/other hardware? Is it a good idea to make sure I get all of it 64-bit? And will 32-bit programs run on 64-bit hardware, and will it use over 4 GB of RAM?

Video Card?

On my desktop computer, I put in a cheap video card just to enhance the video of You tube play back. I am not a gamer. The card I put in is a NVidia driver based card. It's annoying to me to keep updating drivers that take up 1 or 2 gb of storage... What are my options???
Thanks,
Jerry

External Monitor

I have an old all in one Hitachi Vision Desk 2600 series computer with Win2000Pro OS.

New tower computer uses a 21" external LCD monitor.

Have no trouble attaching old computer to new monitor as the Hitachi has an external VGA port, but both monitors are then on.

The Bios has only two display choices:
1. Auto - This makes both monitors work
2. Inboard - This makes only the small monitor work even though external is attached.

I want to turn off small monitor permanently and use only the large one. Is there any way to do this without opening the case and detaching the monitor (if this is even possible)?

Thanks

Dell Inspiron 3520 won't recognize charger off and on

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 3520, Windows 8) is about a year and a half old now. Lately it has been having issues recognizing the charger when I plug it in. Sometimes it will show it's charging for a few seconds and then it stops. Often, when I restart or shut down and turn it back on, it will be fine and charge like normal. Other times, nothing is wrong and it charges exactly like it's supposed to. Right now, I've turned it off and on several times and it still won't charge. I don't know if it's the battery, the charger, or something wrong with my laptop.

edit: I left it on with the charger plugged in just in case, and now it seems to be charging intermittently; the light indicating it's charging will stay steady before it blinks and bit and goes back to being steady.

lenovo thinkpad x200 screen flicker

Lenovo Thinkpad X200, around 5 or 6 years old, used every day for past 4 years. Screen has started flickering. No black screen or white outs, just flickering very quickly/lightly, but very obvious.

Tried to check ribbon cable to screen and it seems ok. Started and restarted computer with battery in and out, checked PSU/plug with my spare set and both ok. Changed from 50hz to 60hz resolution and screen still flickers.

Have checked lenovo help site but caught no joy.

Does this sound like the screen needs replacing or the inverter needs replacing or is there something obvious I've missed ?

Apart from this screen flicker it works fine.

I have an issue, My Computer Turns on, off, and on

Every time i turn on my computer, it stays on for a few seconds then turns off, then on, and i have already tried disassembling the motherboard, removing other components one by one, placing it back on as well and still continues with this situation today. Including that when it turns again the second time, everything runs smoothly that is on the motherboard then happens to power on with no power shutdown right after, but it still wouldn't power up my essentials like keyboards, mouse, screen, etc.

Solved: New CPU cooler = No monitor Signal/ powerless peripherals

Good morning ladies and gentlemen,

The problem occurred last night after I attempted my very first installation of a cpu cooler, a Be Quiet ! SR1 heatsink fan combo, I chose this from good reviews. I'm not a professional tech guy, but have installed a new SSD, RAM (on old system) and a graphics card and wanted to add heatsink to the list.. which I am currently regretting.

I had to unscrew the motherboard, detaching all power supplies/cables to the hardware components, to install the new back plate for my cooler. After installing the cooler, plugging the fan lead into "CPU FAN" on my motherboard, I fastened in the screws reconnected the long power cable to the motherboard, plugged my disk drive, two HDD and SSD cables into the ports on the right of my board,

After double checking the motherboard screws I realise I have managed to some how misplace two, after testing to see if the board was secure (which it was) I go on to plug the two pci_e cables(two for my gpu) into the graphics card, and secure the card into it's relevant slot awaiting a click, after a gentle wiggle I was happy it was secure, and screw in the screw to hold it in place on my case.

I close her up, and take her upstairs, plug in the power lead, and all my peripherals, ( headset, keyboard mouse network Wi-Fi adapter and webcam, I decided to keep the window panel off for clear visual before starting up,

After powering up, the fan remains stationary on my cooler, graphics fans working, power supply was working, no beeping or obvious visual errors other than cpu fan, I change it to "SYS FAN" on my motherboard, which due to small case involved taking the mb off and moving the fan lead.

Fan now works, but peripherals won't, and my monitor has no signal. I noticed this morning near the Cpu was a empty 12v 6 pin, is that the problem? Nothing is connected to it.

I even moved my gpu to make sure i didn't damage the slot. No luck.

Thanks for reading through.I figured detail was key.

I am trying to get my wife on the net. She is using an old IBM desktop running Windows XP.
I bought a Digitazz 300mbps wireless adapter and every time I plug it in to the USB port the computer turns off and restarts.

I have tried plugging the adapter in to my PC and it is OK so i don't think the adapter is faulty.

Any ideas guys?

xfx radeon 5450 vs ati radeon 4650

I just picked up the xfx radeon 5450 1gb 64bit ddr3 card for a new build but realized i have an ati radeon 4650 512mb 128bit ddr2 from the old build that i could probably still use.

which of the two cards is the better card?

im sure there are a few other differences but the main ones im seeing are the xfx is ddr3 and 1gb with 64bit and hdmi output while the 4650 is 512mb ddr2 with 128bit and no hdmi

does ddr2 or 3 matter? would i notice a difference between the two cards?

the computer's not for any heavy gaming - mostly watching videos and light editing work.
