PC Starts after few minutes goes black, no video input

Hi guys,

A nephew of mine installed some stuff on the pc of my folks and it slowed down crazy. I cleaned the HDD to reinstall Windows.
But the pc went crazy and it drives me crazy now, have been trying to get Windows installed, yesterday and today after work, but the pc just keeps going off it seems.
I startup, if i dont do anything i get the message, boot.msg. If i choose BIOS or make the dvd master, everything seems to go well, but after a couple of minutes everything goes blank and the screen says, no video input. But all the fans, including those of my videocard and CPU and case keeps on spinning. But my videocard and CPU cools off, so i guess the mobo shuts all off.

What could be the reason? MOBO fail? videocard gets too hot and some kind of security mechanism? Or is the power supply?

I tried the following: 1) I opened the case, cleaned all the dust, 2) removed 3 ram sticks, 3) I got an old HDD and tried to get it work with that, 4) tried another screen, 5) i removed videocard and tried to clean, 6) i removed the battery and reset BIOS, 7) removed cpu heatsink and reinstalled, all failed.

I wanted to try another videocard, but dont want to buy a new one, and havent been able to find one till now to borrow and check that out.

Please do help me, cause i really want to solve this thing..

Check the 2 photos, the inside of the pc and the videocard.

Ready to order, please look over (gaming pc)

Push Pin Locks - Now What

Those darn Push Pin Locks on the HSF that hold it to the mobo.

I have searched and searched but cannot find new ones anywhere. Over the years I now have several HSF's in a box because the little clear plastic ears on the push pin locks broke off. The HSF's are fine, just don't have the Push Pin Locks to hold them down. I ended up having to buy new HSFs because I couldn't fine any of those PPL's.

So, again, I have another HSF that is loose on the CPU/MOBO because of the little plastic ears breaking. Does anybody know where I could get a dozen or so of those PPL's to have on hand when one breaks or stretches out too much?

If you have another idea other than the PPL's please let me know.

Thanks, Steve-x8086

DVI to HDMI and 3.5mm audio connected but no sound

Hi folks, so I got a new pc and connected it to my LG 42LV550T using a DVI to HDMI and 3.5mm from line out (and tried headphone socket) to the 3.5mm audio in (RGB/DVI) socket on the TV but I don't get any sound on the TV.
I connected the PC to my stereo using the line out and headphones socket with 3.5mm to stereo/phono plugs and I get sound, but I would like the sound through the TV and then the TV connected to my stereo for better sound all round.

I know DVI doesn't carry sound.

I had a chat on LG support with no help

Any ideas ?

Solved: Question about laser printers

I've never owned one, but I'm thinkng of getting one. My question is this:

To my understanding, a laser beam burns text into the paper, which means no extra costs (such as ink carts). However, everywhere I see them sold online, they also have replacement "toner" carts. What are these mysterious toner carts and why do I need them? Can't a laser printer "just work" without needing extras?

Digital Video Camera Driver Problems

I was recently gifted a DGX 305v Digital Video Camera. When I attempt to update the driver it is not successful. Apparently the driver isn't supported by Windows 7. The manufacturers website is no help at all. The email address the provided isn't active so I can't contact them. I downloaded the driver from the manufacturer's website but it doesn't work. Is there any way to make my camera compatible.

Hi, I literally just received my new graphics card (XFX Radeon 7950 HD) and I installed the drivers via the CD which came with the card. I've tried running a few games which should definitely work on good settings and I'm getting a bad framerate. I tried running Metro Last Light on the same settings I could run it on the old card (XFX ATI Radeon 4890 HD) and It was giving me a poor frame rate? Could anyone help, please, thanks. :(

Screen Diagnostics

Hi all,

Looking at a friends Acer 5742 laptop which has almost dead screen.
You can see the screen very faintly if you shine a light on it so it appears the problem is only with the backlighting.

I have taken the machine to pieces and checked all cabling and solder points onto any circuitry, all looks fine.
I have re-flashed the latest BIOS as suggested by some others with a similar problem on Acer's, but with no joy.

I just wanted to know if there is anything else I can check. The 5742 has a LED backlit LCD screen so there is no inverter present.

I have already ordered the replacement screen, if it doesn't solve the problem I can return within 7 days FOC.

Any ideas ?

Cheers as always......

Hello there, my problem is one that i am not entirely sure of myself, i had taken apart my computer and had finished putting everything back together, but upon forgetting to put back in a crucial piece, (The screw i believe) Something got stuck inside the middle of the laptop... i tried to unscrew whatever it is from the back... i tried to pull it out, but it wont come out and i am confused as to what i am supposed to do in order to solve this situation... if anyone is available, i may be able to offer pictures as i have not encountered this before...

According to my research, i believe its called a striped screw?

Also, i hope this topic is in the right section, thank you.

Wireless Media Player HELP!

$

Ok, here's the setup:

PC in location A. PC is hooked up to a wireless router via ethernet cable. 1TB external hard drive is hooked up to PC via USB cable. Downloaded and backed up media content is regularly copied from PC to external hard drive.

TV in location B. Has HDMI inputs and lan input etc., it's a new Toshiba 39".

What we are wanting to do is play the media from the external hard drive on the TV, wirelessly.

Now, we've found a few decent looking Android wireless media players on eBay, a few of these are:
- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/190831672144
- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/400442463493

My question is, can we plug any of these media players into a power outlet in location B where the TV is, and then plug the media player into the TV via an HDMI cable, and connect from the media player to the external hard drive (plugged into the PC in location A) to see and play media files on the TV?

Or by "wireless" media players does it simply mean they can connect to the internet to visit websites and maybe watch YouTube etc. on the TV through the media player?

Any help much appreciated :) We've asked each seller and haven't heard back so need to find out before we buy in case it doesn't do what we are needing it to do :)

Thanks guys!

I can't see what is on my screen

I have a rather old Compaq Presario C500 and it turns on and boots Windows Vista but the screen looks as though I dropped it, with a series of green and black bars, of varying widths, running along the screen in my way only problem is that I didn't drop it. I can tell that's it is running Startup Repair but after that the controls get too demanding with my limited field of vision on the screen. Does this mean that my data is corrupted?

Computer freezing, must shut off with power switch

A 2002 Dell machine running XP.
Today after idling for a while, screen froze, nothing would help except shut power off, and wait a while.
It would not start until off for a time period.
After this happening twice I open case to find alot of dust..
Cleaned it out and it lasted longer than before, however it did freeze up again after a longer duration.
I am going to open up again to see if the computer chip fan stays running.
I'm assuming these freezes are due to over heating the processor, I've never had this problem before, or any other for that matter.
I am using this computer as a work station for programs not able to run on 7.
Any ideas or suggestions would be welcomed.
Thanks

Overclocking an Core i7-3930K Processor?

$

Hi, I have a Core i7-3930K CPU that runs normally at 3.20GHz. When I did a stress test it got up to 3.80 GHz I'm guessing due to Intel's Turbo Boost Technology. But anyway I want to over clock it at least into the 4GHz Range. I Have a Liquid Cooler installed in my rig, so temperature isn't really a problem. Do you have any tips to overclock my CPU? Or even a profile that I could load up in the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility app. Or maybe even a whole new easier to use application. I've been kinda hesitant to overclock for fear of braking my rig. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
